Welcome rodeo fans! My name is Lauren Rulofson, and I have the great honor and pleasure of being your 2014 Miss Redding Rodeo. My journey started in the middle of June of 2013 when I first applied to be Miss Redding Rodeo 2014 (MRR). The competition started in July when I had a personal interview and a social gathering to be introduced to the “family”, or better known as the Redding Rodeo Association. We then moved on to the horsemanship competition. I rode the very handsome 22 year old registered AQHA red gelding, Rum, who resides in Cottonwood at the JBL Ranch. The competition was followed by a fun night of modeling and speeches. I was crowned MRR 2014 on August 10, 2013! After I was crowned, I rode a veteran Miss Redding Rodeo steed, Dusty. He carried me in many parades, and rodeos. A now a little about me…my favorite colors are green and turquoise. I love anything pasta. I listen to all types of music. However, my favorite is that old country like George Jones, Tanya Tucker, and Sammy Kershaw! I am 19 and currently attend Shasta College; I will be transferring to Chico State in the fall of 2014 to major in Elementary School Teaching with a minor in Cattle Production. I have been on the back of a horse since before I could walk. Most of the horsey things I do are from a rancher’s point of view. If I am breaking and selling horses for my Grandma or gathering and branding cows with my cousins and Uncle, I am most comfortable on horseback. When I was is the 6th grade I was introduced to the competition side of horsemanship. I started competing in gymkhanas on my beautiful bay paint mare, Whisper. Since she had a colt, Kochese, in 2007 I went back to my passion of showing animals at local fairs. I raised 7 sheep and 2 steers in my 4-H and FFA career. I competed in multiple public speaking competitions that helped to shape me into the public speaker I have become. I have had the time of my life, and met more friends than I can list in my travels all over California. I am excited to invite you to the 66th annual Redding Rodeo, and for the 2nd year Challenge of the Champions in the 3rd week of May 2014. It will be a blast no matter if you are 1 year old or 101 years old. I will see you all there! Happy Trails…..
Lauren, 2014 Miss Redding Rodeo
