Hello everyone, my name is Sabrina Cantu and I am beyond honored to be your 2018 Miss Redding Rodeo Queen. Being Miss Redding Rodeo has been a dream of mine sense I was very little. When I met Kristina Bradley, Miss Redding Rodeo 2008, and got a signed photo I knew that it was my goal to someday be Miss Redding Rodeo. Exactly 10 years later and I can say with a smile I accomplished my dream.
I have been involved in the rodeo life style sense I was little. My very first horse was a 36 inch tall miniature named Little-Man. At that point my mother new this was going to be my passion for the rest of my life. But to this day, she says that the best decision she ever made, was letting me get that little horse. I competed in Junior Rodeos and Gymkhanas all the way up to my Freshman year in High School where I became a member of the California High School Rodeo Association District 1 Rodeo Team. I competed in Barrel Racing, Pole Bending, Goat Tying, Breakaway Roping and Team Roping. It was my senior year when my main horse Teddy Bear, my 16 year old bay quarter horse and I qualified for Challenge of Champions and California State Finals in Barrel Racing. It was an honor to compete alongside such amazing athletes. After I graduated I moved on to join the Feather River College Rodeo Team and joined the California Cowboys Pro Rodeo Association.
Currently I am attending Shasta College and working towards my Ag Business and Ranch Management degree. When I am not rodeoing or going to school I have two amazing jobs that keep me pretty busy. On my down time I enjoy helping my friends gather, brand, doctor and ship cattle. I am an avid hunter and fisher and I enjoy helping my Father with his Hay Business. Watching my Dad buy and sell cattle really sparked my interest in the cattle industry. So I got my brand registered with the California Ag Department and bought my first 3 heifers last year. Eventually after college I hope to have a successful cow/calf operation.
Being Miss Redding Rodeo, I want to share my love and passion for the sport of rodeo and the western way of life with everyone I meet. Rodeo has taught me how to work hard, never give up, enjoy the little things, stay humble and always know how blessed I am every time I get to swing my leg over a horse. The rodeo world is a big family that competes against each other, but supports each other. I want to share this amazing Rodeo family with everyone, young or old. I want to make sure that every youngster leaves the rodeo with a smile and memory they can treasure forever. I am so excited for this 2018 year and I am beyond honored to represent the amazing City of Redding and the Redding Rodeo Association.
Thank you to everyone who has supported me and pushed me to follow my dreams.
